Proper Chillage
If there is one dude we wouldn't mind being stuck on a cross country bus ride with, it is our man DJ COLLAGEY. Not only Is Dj Collagey a cool cat, he makes some dope beats.

Dj Collagey's aka B-Zam's new cd "Proper Chillage" is a definite coming out party for his proper fusion of mixed genre's. Think ninja who can cook, very skilled, yet graceful and thought provoking (nice). We got an early copy from Collagey to jam to, and we must say, it is awesome. It's inspiring; think Motown, funk, disco, soul, jazz, blues, hip hop, and electronica with guest MC Max Thief, straight out of the UK, lacing the tracks with his distinct vocals. Each song has a smooth and consistent transition, you can breeze through the 20 or so tracks without hesitating. We see big things for our dude, and you'll most likely see him at one of our up coming events. He ROCKS! Period. Now go check his album, it's a pretty good deal for a healthy meal; CLICK:

Check out DOWNBEATHIPHOP for his events and other info. (Hit The DownBeat Link.)

And of course, our Homies at Earthbound Radio where Dj Collagey has his show every Friday, give it a listen!

The Warriors!
"These are the Armies of The Night. They are 100,000 strong. They outnumber the cops five to one. They could run New York City. Tonight they're all out to get the Warriors"

These are the Warriors...."Whoa, you guys are the big dudes"

"Warriors, come out to play-yay!"

New York City. Home to 7,000,000 people, they work, play, and have fun by day. But at night the city is run by ruthless street gangs such as; The Furies, The Boppers, The Hi-Hats, The Lizzies, The Turnbull AC's, The Gramercy Riffs and The Warriors. One night at an all gangs meeting, the leader of the Riffs, Cyrus, makes a speech and creates a plan to unite all the gangs of the city. One gang strong enough to overpower the police. But suddenly he is shot and a gang called The Warriors are framed by Luther, leader of the Rogues. Now they have to return to Coney Island, escaping from 20,000 policemen and 100,000 sworn enemies. They got one way out. They got one chance. They've got one night.

Check the trailer, but certainly rent the movie and educate yourself on a sure cult classic slice of Americana. Warriors, CAN YOU DIG IT!!!

Caffeine
Before we talk about our LA trip I would like to share our Sunday with you...

Every single morning...and i mean EVERY SINGLE MORNING...we start the day off with coffee. When you're running on 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night, it is a must.

This Sunday Andrew and I went to St. Tropez Bakery & Bistro

My favorite thing to get is the Pain au Chocolat. YESSSSS!

Next we went to Souplantation with our very good friend Ollie and met his "friend" April. :)

Andrew and I were feeling pretty tired so we decided to go to Starbucks to get a little caffeine boost. Who needs sleep? Anyways, this is the good part, so pay attention. We walk in, order our drinks, and run into the lead singer of Hoobastank!

HAHAHAHA! Sorry... I thought it was funny

Ian didn't (hahaha!)

OllieWood!

I'll tell you right now, I'm very particular about my books, my literature, my newspapers and my blogs...yes my blogs. One blog I'll admit as a guilty pleasure is Ollie Neglerio's blog.

Ollie is family, and when it comes to his blog; dude is solid. He portrays a story from beginning to end pretty well, and provides a sturdy and methodical first person perspective. We almost have to double check if we were with him because sometimes we'll bring something up over conversation and forget we read about it and weren't actually there! It has become just as important as our daily 'Hundreds' - 'Highsnobiety' 'Hypebeast' 'NewYorkTimes' 'ProSportsDaily' and 'Mishka NYC" blogs.

And If you don't know who the Wildboyz are, they are the funnest group to hang with, hands down. Think 1/4th comedy, 1/4th trouble, 1/4th instantaneous good time, and 1/4th Asian. It is almost a given if we make it a wildboyz night, it's going to be a tough morning, but a memorable night in the books. Here's some recent video's Ollie made of the Wildboyz recent adventures that had me laughing so hard, I spilled milk on my brand new mac keyboard. I might bill Ollie for that...kidding...

Are you afraid of the dark?
If you were born in the 80's, and grew up in the 90's AND were a Nickelodeon fan, then I guarantee "Are you afraid of the dark?" was on your top 10 favorite shows. I remember when I was younger, my cousin and I would religiously watch this show. I looked forward to it all week to see what new ghostly tale was awaiting my peepers come Thursday night @ 7p.m. on snick.

Because of the monster video vault that is YOUTUBE, I dug up some of my favorite episodes and almost drowned in the euphoria. The sentimental moments from when I was kid hit me in the face. It made me want to be a kid again...back then a skinned knee and Lucky Charm's were only the only things I had to worry about...I'm still trying to figure out what the hell they had in that damn sand that made the fire erupt before each episode? Gun powder maybe...but in a sack the size of a sand bag...isn't that illegal??? Heh...at least they put the fire out in the end with a bucket of water someone carried all the way out there...it was almost poetic to see the smoke come up and segway into the credits...best part, there was always a moral to the story. C'est la vie....here's one of my favorite episodes...hope you enjoy it as much as I did...

Something wicked this way comes...

"Beware the autumn people...For some, autumn comes early, stays late, through life, where October follows September and November touches October and then instead of December and Christ's birth there is no Bethlehem Star, no rejoicing, but September comes again and old October and so on down the years, with no winter, spring or revivifying summer.
For these beings, fall is the only normal season, the only weather, there be no choice beyond.

Where do they come from? The dust. Where do they go? The grave. Does blood stir their veins? No, the night wind. What ticks in their head? The worm. What speaks through their mouth? The toad. What sees from their eye? The snake. What hears with their ear? The abyss between the stars.

They sift the human storm for souls, eat flesh of reason, fill tombs with sinners. They frenzy forth. In gusts they beetle-scurry, creep, thread, filter, motion, make all moons sullen, and surely cloud al clear-run waters. The spider-web hears them, trembles-breaks.
Such are the autumn people. Beware of them."

Catching up
It was just one of those days today...

You know when you wake up some mornings, mainly early morning like 6ish, and just know the day is going to be horrible? Today was that day. Nothing went right at all. It was like someone was controlling my movements, speech, and thoughts. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING RIGHT!

My Solution after a bad bad bad BAD bad BAD day? Make the rest of the day/night interesting. There is no better way to do that then with your friends.

I decided to stop by at my buddie Ton's house. I haven't seen him in awhile so hey...why not catch up?

There he is! The goofiest guy you'll meet in your entire life.

Oh wait I take that back. His brother is.. KHANG!

Remember that kids movie, "3 ninjas"

Holy Smokes!

They were looking to buff so i had to roll my sleeves up..I'm sorry.

Khang decided to serenade us with a beautiful John Legend song.

I told you hes weird.

Vi is the best cake baker ever! ( I had a big crush on her in high school..SHH! Hope she doesn't see this.)

I'm going to go back and do a photoshoot with this guy because hes crazy! I had my little pocket camera so none of the pictures came out except this one.

V Formation
One of our favorite dudes to mash ingredients with is our man Elliot G.

Elliot was in town from the gloomy skies of San Francisco (where an authentic carne asada burrito is rare) with a hot tip...that tip? The moped tip of course. You thought fixed gear was hot and running...you'll see the Hoey inc. x Ultra Vitalence Moped gang rolling through your neighborhood with matching skinny suits and goggles in a signature "V" formation.

But first the proper tools.

The V formation will initiate soon!

Elliot was featured on the URB MAGAZINE site recently, showcasing his skills. So go check it out. It gives you a little insight on the up and coming brand you'll know about before your friends do.

Here's Elliot's boutique in San Francisco.

Here's Mikey from The Cool Kids rockin' the Ultra Vitalence fits.

You'll hear from Ultra Vitalence and Hoey inc. soon...the rest is a mystery.

As Elliot would say: "Dream: On"

Now go to Ultra Vitalence to check out the digs!

Conspire

The night started out like any other night. The dampened autumn leaves scattered a wet, cold road like a dark nature collage on a sidewalk palette. The air was chilled, silent; you could hear the symphony of crickets over the rustling of trees. I needed a breath of fresh air. Usually that fresh air is the mountain man himself; Andrew.

Andrew always seems to be kinetically charged. His brain won't allow him to sleep, and his mind won't allow him to relax. He's like a perching night owl, waiting restlessly for a midnight mouse. It was time for a good inspiration session.

Today's quote.

Mixed with the perfect fuel.

A little motivation...

Expanding toys...hmmmm...I'm not going to lie...for 1.99$, the appeal of an expanding devil ray and a few dinosaurs under warm water is fascinating. It gave me that same euphoria gummy bears did after school when I was younger. My dad always rewarded me for being a good kid...something I'll never forget.

Some krylon to get the juices flowing...

Andrew's project for the night was the beginning to a complicated and layered stencil piece. It reminded me of a scene from the vintage vampire flick "Nosferatu" that me and Ultra Elliot G. were conversing about a few weeks back.

The beginning stages are layed down, he has 1.5 sleepless nights to be satisfied.

Our mysterious friend...we'll reveal him later...

One last trip before bed time...

We're always watching....Goodnight...

Legends Never Die
They say, 'Legends Never Die.' They don't. I thought of who inspired me, and what impact they had on my life. I can think of two right off the bat that have never ceased to move me. Their lives were taken at a young age which sealed their legend and encapsulated their life in the accomplishments they left behind. As icons, the mystique of their sudden passing truly made them legends. The fact that the world will never know what kind of impact they may have made if they never died leaves an impression on all who were fans; and the impact they did make while they were alive will truly never die. It is their legend which inspires us to be great, as they were great so young, but taken so quickly. So this is my tribute to James Dean and River Phoenix.

- Ian

JAMES DEAN (February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955)

"I also became close to nature, and am now able to appreciate the beauty with which this world is endowed."

"Only the gentle are ever really strong."

"Since I'm only 24 years old, guess I have as good an insight into this rising generation as any other young man my age."

"The gratification comes in the doing, not in the results."

"The only greatness for man is immortality."

"There is no way to be truly great in this world. We are all impaled on the crook of conditioning."

"Trust and belief are two prime considerations. You must not allow yourself to be opinionated."

River Phoenix (August 23, 1970 - October 31, 1993)

"When I was in first grade, everyone made fun of my name, of course. I think it's kind of a big name to hold up when you're nine years old. It seemed goofy. I used to tell people I wanted to change the world and they used to think, 'This kid's really weird'."

"Everything is ironic to me. There are moments I find hysterical, but I'm probably the only one who would find that, except for a few people."

"I can't on my own change the regime in South Africa or teach the Palestinians to learn to live with the Israelies, but I can start with me."

"I don't want to die in a car accident. When I die it'll be a glorious day. It'll probably be a waterfall."

"I have a lot of chameleon qualities, I get very absorbed in my surroundings."

"I remember we'd roll into gas stations in our beat-up van and I'd tell the attendant, 'I'm going to be an actor!"

"I sometimes lie, especially about personal things, because what does it matter? I am a kind of minute commodity, my name is no longer my own."

"I would never, never do anything unless I believed in it."

"Rich kids gave us their old clothes. They were the best clothes we ever had. We were these very pure, naive, poor children. The rich kids called us a lot of names but it never bothered us because we didn't know what the words meant."

"We are taught to consume. And that's what we do. But if we realized that there really is no reason to consume, that it's just a mind set, that it's just an addiction, then we wouldn't be out there stepping on people's hands climbing the corporate ladder of success."

Sunday, it was...Monday it will be.
Albert Schweitzer once said; "Do not let Sunday be taken from you. If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan."

Today was a great day, besides the Charger's winning, and the rain bringing substance to a normally bright and sunny San Diego morning and afternoon...Some day's just feel right. Like a black and white movie, or a shadowy silhouette under a rural street lamp.

Sunday just seems like it was made to be that day you take to relax. To catch up emotionally and mentally from what the week has provided. It can almost be described as a dream...only to wake up on Monday to the beginning of a productive week. Sometimes the day alone brings inspiration that can last through the week...even month. All in all, to close your eyes on a Sunday night, and be greeted by a Monday dawn...There is a sense of serenity...Monday...Here we come.

Rain!

Looks like another gorgeous storm in San Diego...I missed the Rain. To me rain is falling poetry. Some people find it gloomy, depressing and even annoying...I find it beautiful, mysterious. To me, you can't beat the inspiration from rain. I find myself pressing my hands on the window sill, peering into a gray sky...completely memorized by a cold gloomy day. A warm cup of coffee...my laptop or a good book, and life couldn't be better.

Reminded me of a poem by Shel Silverstein (Where the sidewalk ends) Called "Rain"

Rain

I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.

I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can't do a handstand--
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said--
I'm just not the same since there's rain in my head.

-Shel Silverstein

Be Safe today San Diego.
